In June 2014, APC Women’s Rights Programme co-facilitated a digital storytelling workshop for male transgender sex workers in partnership with Sonke Gender Justice and Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Task Force in Cape Town, South Africa. The rationale for this digital storytelling workshop was for 10 male and transgender sex workers to formulate their stories in a supportive environment, and if appropriate to produce it in such a way that the stories could serve as educational material for advocating for sex workers’ access to human rights. The focus of the digital stories was – why sex work should be decriminalised and the impact criminalisation has on sex workers lives.
Some reflections from participants:
“For me this workshop was amazing because it helped us to advocate about our problems.”
“Exciting, informative, inspirational!”
